Description

In Poetry and Spoken Word, learners get to redefine poetry as a mode of inquiry, expression, healing, and creativity. Poetry and Spoken Word is deep dive into writing that strengthens foundational skills through the use of analysis poetry, response writing, and performance. Students will use spoken word and contemporary to explore questions about the purpose, benefits, aesthetics, and application of poetry in modern society through the human experience. They will use revision to strengthen how they read, write, revise, and perform poetry. In this course, students will respond to universal themes, historical context, and the intent of an author’s craft as well as create and publish their own chapbook to examine their own story. This engaging and impactful course asks learners, “What is it you want to say and why does the world need to hear it?”
