Course Description
Meets UC/CSU Fine Arts requirement. Recommended for grades 11–12.
Animation Capstone is an advanced, project-based course designed for learners who are interested in pursuing animation or related creative careers. This course provides learners with the opportunity to grow into effective, multi-skilled animators by developing professional habits, technical skills, and creative problem-solving abilities used across the animation pipeline.
Throughout the course, learners explore career pathways in animation, reflect on industry expectations, and apply their skills in real-world or simulated professional settings. Learners will choose one of the following pathways to demonstrate their learning and earn course credit:
Path 1: Industry Experience: Complete field hours in the animation industry as an employee, intern, or volunteer. Learners interested in this option are encouraged to apply for positions before enrolling in the course. This resource is provided as a starting point. iLEAD Online is not affiliated with, nor responsible for, any external internship or volunteer opportunities pursued by learners
Path 2: Independent Animation Projects: Produce original animation projects and develop a personal website portfolio to showcase creative work, process, and growth over time.
Path 3: Adobe Animate Certification: Study Adobe Animate and prepare for an industry-recognized certification exam. Full-time iLEAD Online learners will have course and exam fees covered. Part-time learners are responsible for associated costs.
- Before selecting this path, learners must confirm that their computer meets the minimum system requirements for Adobe Animate (Click here to view). If these requirements cannot be met, learners must select Path 1 or Path 2 to earn course credit.
- Note: Path 3 requires the use of outside certification providers. iLEAD Online is not able to troubleshoot or resolve issues related to external certification services, and any concerns must be addressed directly with the certifying companies. If needed, additional time may be provided to complete this path within the Brightspace course. Alternatively, learners may choose a different path to complete the remaining coursework and earn course credit. This course emphasizes reflection, goal setting, career exploration, and portfolio development while supporting learners in making informed decisions about future education and career pathways in animation and digital media.
