The Innocence Project
In our Criminal Justice course, learners spent several weeks learning about wrongful convictions and how they happen. They studied real exonerees whose cases were taken on by the Innocence Project. After gaining perspective on eyewitness testimony, interrogations, and court representation, the learners took on the task of preparing a Writ of Innocence to present in mock court. They worked a case the same way the Innocence Project does, from selection to identifying and requesting evidence, and going before a court to present their case for exoneration.
Learners heard the firsthand stories of wrongful convictions when exonerees Jeffrey Deskovic and Anthony DiPippo presented. The Criminal Justice learners had studied Jeffrey’s case in class and were grateful to meet him.
