Networking & Cybersecurity Foundations is a yearlong CTE course in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector for grades 9–12 designed to prepare learners for advanced study in AP Cybersecurity and related technology pathways. Learners explore the foundational systems that power modern computing and communication, including computer hardware, operating systems, networking concepts, cloud technologies, virtualization, scripting, and infrastructure design. Through hands-on projects and real-world simulations, learners develop technical skills in configuring systems, troubleshooting networks, using Linux and command-line tools, and automating tasks with introductory programming concepts.
The course emphasizes systems thinking, collaboration, technical communication, and ethical technology practices while introducing learners to industry-relevant tools and workflows. Aligned with California CTE Anchor Standards and ICT Networking Pathway Standards, the course integrates technical knowledge, problem-solving, career exploration, and project-based learning to build readiness for AP Cybersecurity, industry certifications, and future technology careers. Learners culminate the course by designing and presenting an integrated technology solution that demonstrates their understanding of networking, systems operations, and digital infrastructure.
This course is part of a CTE pathway. View our CTE webpage for details.
