Like Kendrick Lamar, George Watsky and Chance the Rapper, you too can be a Slam Poet. This unique form of poetry, begun in the 1980’s, follows the oral traditions of Beat poets where the power of the poetry came not just from the written word but the performance, and turned it into a movement. Everywhere, across the globe, are poetry slams, people coming together to celebrate poetry. In this eight week course you will discover a few of the awesome literary techniques that go into writing great poetry: meter, structure, metaphor (and more) while composing and then performing your original slam poem.
