Description
This course will examine music in the United States including from the time of the earliest settlers and Pre-revolution, Antebellum, Civil War tunes, the establishment of a distinctive American style to the present with the introduction of internet/music streaming online. We will look at music from the point of view of history in America and how music was created to express the culture, and current events of the time period. Students will develop inquiry, writing and literacy skills while learning about music and its origins in American history. At the end of the course, students will create a project that displays their learning. The class coursework also offers students the opportunity to learn how to research online, engage in narrative techniques, and express themselves in a strong, articulate manner.
