Learners in Honors English 12 British Literature will explore famous British literature and develop critical thinking and writing skills.We will learn all about what makes some of the most classic literature great at the same time that you will be able to practice the art of writing, argument, and expression. Through our study we will explore important themes about pride, monstrosity, acceptance, and other very human issues. British Literature will focus on reading the following main texts: Macbeth, Beowulf, Grendel, Pride and Prejudice, Frankenstein, and Heart of Darkness. Through our study of British literature, we will answer our course driving question: What can literature tell us about life? How does our background and perspective influence how we understand and interact with the world, texts, ideas, and each other? We will explore figurative language and the value of storytelling by focusing on writing about what we read. The class emphasizes the importance of logic and flow in writing with a strong focus on persuasive writing. All Content is aligned with the Common Core Standards for English.
