This is the third part of a year-long health course is designed to introduce middle school students to age appropriate topics and discussions surrounding all aspects of their health. The objective is to have our learners become knowledgeable about what constitutes physical, emotional and social wellness, and to take charge of their health for their entire lives. This class covers nutrition and physical activity, personal and community health, injury prevention and safety, mental, emotional and social health, growth, development and sexual health, and alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
This course is compliant with the California Healthy Youth Act.
The purpose of the California Healthy Youth Act (California Education Code [EC] sections 51930-51939) is to provide every student with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect their sexual and reproductive health from unintended pregnancy, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
