Course Description
Meets UC/CSU fine art requirement. For grades 11-12.
This Advanced Placement course is designed for highly motivated photographers and designers who are ready for rigorous, college-level study in photography and design. Learners will work toward the creation of a professional-quality portfolio and are expected to be self-directed, as they would be in a college art course. Learners should plan to spend approximately 2 hours per weekday producing work and completing course activities.
Work may be created using photography, digital media, graphic design, mixed media, or a combination of approaches. No specific software is required for this course. Learners may use a variety of tools, including Procreate, Adobe applications, and other photography or design programs.
To potentially earn college credit, learners must purchase and submit an AP 2-D Art and Design Portfolio Exam through the College Board and earn a qualifying score. This course follows the College Board’s AP course timeline and utilizes resources available through AP Classroom. Semester B must be completed in the same school year as Semester A. The optional AP portfolio exam may only be submitted during the spring semester.
Optional Adobe Photoshop Certification Opportunity
Learners who wish to develop additional photography, digital art, and design skills may choose to pursue an Adobe Photoshop certification. This optional certification is separate from the AP 2-D Art and Design curriculum and does not affect the learner’s course grade or AP portfolio submission.
iLEAD Online full-time learners may have the opportunity to earn the Adobe Photoshop certification at no cost. Learners who are not enrolled full-time with iLEAD Online may also pursue the certification but are responsible for any associated software, exam, or certification costs.
Participation in the certification program is entirely optional and self-directed. Learners who choose to pursue certification are responsible for completing the certification requirements independently alongside their portfolio work. Additional details will be provided in Block 1.
