Whale-watching volunteers sit in a row on the cliffs of Point Vicente because it is the perfect vantage point for seeing whatever is happening offshore – including whales swimming nearby. Volunteers count migrating grey whales for the American Cetacean Society’s annual census. A bell is rung every time a whale is spotted, so if you attend the “Whale of a Day Festival” and are distracted with an exhibit, raffle, food vendor, or craft don’t worry about missing a passing whale ~ you will be alerted with the ring of a bell.
The Point Vicente Lighthouse is normally open to the public but is undergoing some renovations, so it may or may not be open by March 10.
