The Face of Support: Spotlight on iLEAD Online Education Specialist Mr. Sean

At iLEAD Online, our commitment to each learner’s success is at the heart of everything we do. Our team goes above and beyond to create a supportive and engaging educational environment. This week, we’re spotlighting Sean Gueringer, or Mr. Sean as his learners know him. Mr. Sean is one of our dedicated Education Specialists, and he shared about his role, his passion for helping learners, and what makes a leader truly great. From coaching championship-winning sports teams to being a devoted father, Sean’s unique background enriches the iLEAD Online community.

Please tell us about your background and how you came to be at iLEAD Online.

This is my 10th year as a Special Education teacher and my second year with iLEAD Online.

What is your role at iLEAD Online? What’s the best part about it? 

I am an Education Specialist. I think the best part about my job is meeting so many awesome kids.

What do you LOVE about iLEAD Online? What sets it apart from other schools?

I think what I like best about iLEAD is the unique supports they have in place for students. Some students have an online teacher, an academic coach, tutors, and ed spec all working to help them be successful in school.

In your opinion, what makes a great leader?

A leader is someone who does the right thing whether someone is watching or not. It’s easy to put in the work when people are watching, but when they leave, will you still be that same person?

What does a day in your school life look like?

My typical days involve me logging online to work with two to three of my students. It looks like me supporting them with their Brightspace or listening to them talk about their favorite food for the day or what video game they just finished playing.

1. I have been a football and wrestling coach for 10 years. I currently coach football at Centennial High School in Corona. We are currently the 9th-ranked team in the country. I coach girls wrestling at Corona High School. My girls’ wrestling team went 16-0 this past season and finished as CIF Dual Meet Champions, CIF Individuals Champions, and CIF Masters Champions.
2. I am the father of two kids, Kehlani and Elijah. Our favorite thing to do is to go to Disneyland, where we have season passes. This summer, we had the chance to go to Disney World in Florida for a week.
3. In my spare time, I like to compete in jiujitsu. I’m currently a blue belt and have competed in several tournaments.
4. Random fact: I grew up mimicking movie sounds. I can make lion noises and have perfected my Chewbacca sound.
