Description

This capstone course serves as the final step in the Public Safety pathway. Students will apply the knowledge and skills gained in prior coursework to real-world scenarios involving public safety, security, and law enforcement. Course topics include weapons of mass destruction awareness, preserving the incident scene, handling difficult people, trespass laws, officer safety, power to arrest, appropriate use of force, public relations, observation and documentation, communication and its significance, liability, and arrest/search/seizure laws. Students will also complete a professional portfolio and final capstone project to demonstrate career readiness. Students will choose one of two pathways for their capstone experience.
Capstone Project: Security Operations Plan for a Public Event/ Guard Card
– Capstone Project Pathway: Students complete a research-based or applied project on a public safety topic.
– Guard Card Pathway: Students complete BSIS-approved guard card training, including required modules such as Supervision, Courtroom Demeanor, Use of Force, and WMD Awareness. The Guard Card assessment portion is in person; the facilitator will provide the date and location closer to the time.
