***This course is not available for the Track C July/August learning period.***

There are few names in American history more synonymous with exploration and discovery than Lewis and Clark. In this course, students will learn about the challenges and successes that the members of the expedition experienced at various stages of its journey and be able to explain the historical implications of the Louisiana Purchase. The course includes topics such as Thomas Jefferson’s greatest accomplishment, the relationship with the Native Americans, scientific discoveries, geography,  trails along the way and how this journey paved the way for generations of pioneers. Under the leadership of Merriweather Lewis, the greatness of this expedition was one for the history books. Students will develop inquiry, writing and literacy skills while learning about a subject that is one of our country’s greatest stories to tell.  At the end of the course, students will create a project that displays their learning.  The class coursework also offers students the opportunity to learn how to research online, practice story-telling and narrative techniques, and express themselves in a strong, articulate manner.
