Geometry

iLEAD Online Math

The purpose of geometry is to create opportunities for students to develop their powers of reason, investigation, computation, and model construction.  Furthermore, students are exposed to an entirely new set of tools to add to their repertoire in tackling multifaceted problems.  Geometry helps students make sense of real world relationships by asking students to make comparisons between diagrams and real world phenomena. Geometry extends the students’ vocabulary going beyond simple identification of shapes and superficial properties through the use of a detailed process of examination, extrapolation, and verification.  Students receive several tools to engage the idea of proof and may use simple tools to acquire an intuition of the concepts and skills presented by the material.  While a secondary goal, geometry offers students the opportunity to continue the refinement of algebra skills through simplifying expressions and solving equations.  Students will discover that geometry provides us with the ability to measure that which we cannot measure directly, thereby bringing to life much of the world around them.
