The student will go beyond gathering the facts, names and data about the nations and lands of the earth to gain a feel for, or an appreciation of, the richness and variety of the face of our planet. A global perspective will be developed as the student builds geographic literacy through interpreting maps, pictures, data and primary documents; reading and thinking critically; studying the physical and human geography of specific, self-selected regions of the world; conducting computer research; collaborating locally and within the online community to begin to make connections between local and global experiences and events; writing to inform, persuade and narrate from the geographer’s perspective; extending the curriculum to include documentaries that examine some of the current issues facing regions of the world.
