The Ballad of America

iLEAD Online Social Sciences

***This course is not available for the Track C July/August learning period.***

This course will examine music in the United States including the time period of the Pre-revolution, Antebellum, Civil War tunes, early 1900s, war protest songs and the Civil Rights movement, all creating the establishment of a distinctively American style. We will look at music from the point of view of history in America and how music was created to express the culture and current events of the time period.  Students will develop inquiry, writing and literacy skills while learning about music and its origins in American history.  At the end of the course, students will create a project that displays their learning.  The class coursework also offers students the opportunity to learn how to research online, engage in narrative techniques, and express themselves in a strong, articulate manner.
