Asia is the world’s largest continent and home to the ancient civilizations of present-day India and China. These two great empires helped shaped religion, were master architects and traders, making advancements in mathematics such as inventing the 0 along with advancements in science. In both of these places, river valleys provided the setting for the development of towns and cities. Both of these civilizations also practiced two of the world’s major religions—Hinduism and Buddhism. Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world today and Buddhism has roughly over 535 million people practicing it right now! In China, the scholars Confucius and Laozi developed ideas that influenced Chinese thinking and society for more than 2,000 years. Ancient Chinese civilizations also built the Great Wall of China and created the Silk Road! Music, art, yoga and wellness flourished during these civilizations so get ready to dive into the past to understand your world today!

This course will provide an introduction to India and China’s ancient civilizations by introducing you to what each civilization is remembered for and examining its major influences on us today.

Recommended for grade 7 and meets 7th grade CA Standards
