National School Counseling Week

National School Counseling Week, which was February 6-10, draws attention to the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. schools. School counselors work with their learners in three areas: academic, career, and social-emotional development. They work hard to help learners achieve school success and plan for a career.

Meet Your 9th-12th Grade School Counselor: Mrs. Valencia Johnson

Valencia Johnson“School counselors are professionals who work in TK-12 schools/programs and help promote access, equity, and resources for the success of all learners. The theme of National School Counseling Week this year is ‘Helping Students Dream Big.’

“As a school counselor, I have learned that every learner’s needs are unique. I might not know all the answers right away, but I will always do my best to find the best resource for them.

“As a school counselor, I want my learners to know that every path to success is different. I encourage you to stay on track, strive to do your best, and know this is just the beginning!

“My number-one goal is for learners to know that with hard work and tenacity, they truly can be whatever they choose.

“I am thankful for my learners, and I am building better humans by creating a space for learners to let me know how they will be great in the world. I am here to make sure they are seen and heard and to guide them along the way.”
