Last week, we commemorated Día de los Muertos. The timing couldn’t have been better for learners in Bridget Valles’ English Language Arts class, who have embarked on a literary journey exploring the enchanting world of Neil Gaiman’s novel Anansi Boys.
Gaiman’s masterpiece weaves elements of magical realism, which has Latin American roots, and folklore seamlessly into a real-world setting much like our own. Learners were tasked with identifying another story that interwove elements of magic within an otherwise realistic backdrop. They were challenged to create posters, collages, and multimedia presentations that would not only share their findings but also explain how magical realism was embedded in their selected narratives.
As an example, Isabella Blanco showcased her creativity through a captivating story review. Her analysis, paired with a carefully curated calavera layout shown above, invites viewers into the enchanting world of magical realism.
