From the moment she first connected with iLEAD as a homeschooling parent, Coach Jodi Saenz—or “Miss Jodi” as her learners call her—knew she had found something special. Now, as a dedicated coach and facilitator for 2nd and 3rd grade at iLEAD Online, she brings a passion for personalized learning and a deep commitment to helping every child thrive. Her journey from parent to beloved staff member is a testament to her belief in the iLEAD mission: meeting learners right where they are and giving them the tools they need to succeed.
Please tell us about your background and how you came to be at iLEAD Online.
I began homeschooling my kids through the iLEAD Lancaster home study program, and that’s how I first became connected with iLEAD and started working with them.
What is your role at iLEAD Online? What’s the best part about it? What’s the biggest challenge? (This can be an “and”/”or” situation.)
I am a coach and facilitator for 2nd and 3rd grade, and I love getting to know all of my learners and their families throughout the year. One of my favorite parts of the job is our class meet-ups, where I get to see learners connect in person. Watching each child’s progress—both academically and personally—is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.
What do you LOVE about iLEAD Online? What sets it apart from other schools?
I love that we meet each learner right where they are, and that we can modify and accommodate to support each learner’s unique needs.
In your opinion, what makes a great leader?
I think a great leader is someone who leads with empathy and integrity. They listen, value the strengths of the people around them, and create an environment where others feel supported to grow.
There are great social-emotional learning activities/opportunities at iLEAD Online. Can you share a story about seeing learners using them in action (or yourself)?
One of my favorite examples is during our Campfire sessions. At the beginning, many learners are shy—some won’t even introduce themselves. But as the weeks go by, I see them open up. By the end, they’re chatting with their peers, participating in discussions, and even sharing their own stories with the group. Watching that growth in confidence and connection is such a powerful reminder of the impact social-emotional learning has.

I’m an animal lover who’s happiest anywhere near water—lakes, oceans, or rivers! I’m also a big reader, and you’ll usually find me listening to audiobooks while driving or out for a walk. A fun fact about me: in my 20s, I spent three months living in Mexico to learn Spanish, and it was an unforgettable adventure!
Jodi’s personal background as an animal lover, avid reader, and world traveler also speaks to her spirit of curiosity and adventure—a spirit she encourages in all her learners. Her time spent living in Mexico to learn Spanish is a perfect example of her willingness to step out of her comfort zone and embrace new experiences. Whether she’s helping a learner discover their voice during a Campfire session or connecting with families during an in-person meet-up, Coach Jodi’s dedication to building a supportive and empathetic community shines through.
