Biology, Physical Education, Health
I am a Cal Lutheran graduate. I earned a degree in liberal studies with an emphasis in biology. I have a creative and inquisitive mind, which makes me constantly seek for a deeper meaning in education. I am intrigued with alternative and progressive methods of educating, and my thirst for knowledge/practice makes me constantly explore a new book to read about education.
I decided that I wanted to be a teacher my second year of college. I was originally a pre-med major who decided that education needed to change after I was unhappy with how my professors were teaching science. My roommates were aspiring teachers and told me to try out a creative teaching class. I loved the class and knew after the first class that I was destined to be a teacher, even though I spent my whole life saying I didn’t want to be a teacher because both of my parents were educators.
After a year of learner teaching, I questioned being a teacher because I disagreed with the traditional system. I didn’t like how it “boxed” kids, fitting one mold. My mom told me to at least try Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School (SCVi) for a year and then make my decision. I tried out SCVi and ended up LOVING it! Project-based learning and social emotional learning is exactly what I am passionate about. I love to think outside the box and take on new challenges, in and out of the classroom.
I have a passion for DIY: I even made my own furniture for my house! I am also passionate about sports. I plan to go back to school to finish up my master’s degree in counseling.
