Dear iLEAD Online Family,
We want to take a moment to discuss the Educational Trailer Bill, AB 130, which passed mid-July 2021 in the State Assembly, and the impact it will have on our program moving forward. Our legal, executive and leadership teams met this summer to brainstorm how we can best implement these new requirements on such short notice for the 2021-22 school year. We have begun discussing long-term planning. We will be working in think tanks throughout the year to determine program-wide decisions that best align with our school’s mission and vision while keeping legalities and best practices in mind.
Here are some of the most impactful pieces of AB 130 for our school:
- Synchronous Instruction/Live Interaction Opportunities Requirement:
- Grades TK-3: Your Academic Coach will provide Campfire, which is live daily synchronous instruction. We also offer free one-to-one tutoring by request.
- Grades 4-12: Your Academic Coach will provide weekly live Campfire or Advisory class instruction. Our course facilitators offer live instructional opportunities to provide daily support. These opportunities, along with our other robust program offerings, such as webinars, facilitator office hours, free tutoring, and more, will satisfy the new requirement for our school to offer synchronous and live support to all learners. We are excited to increase our support, especially for those who might benefit from more interactions with their teacher of record. Your coach and facilitators will provide more information.
- Device/Connection: We will ensure that all learners have the necessary devices and access to connectivity to succeed in our program.
- Graduation Allowances: Due to the pandemic, specific allowances are being made for high school juniors and seniors from last year and this year who are/were not on track to graduate. If they meet the minimum CA graduation requirements, they will be allowed to graduate. Our high school counselors will be reaching out to learners who may qualify.
- Intervention/Re-engagement: Our team has participated in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and has created and implemented re-engagement processes for learners who are not meeting independent study requirements.
- Synchronous Instruction/Live Interaction Attendance Requirement: While daily or weekly live attendance is not mandatory for learners, iLEAD Online Charter school is now required to record and report daily attendance. Learners who are not attending synchronous/live meetings at least once a week will be referred to our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Intervention Team to ensure they are successful and meet independent study requirements.
With Gratitude,
Your iLEAD Online Team
