Game Design & Development Capstone is a yearlong CTE course for grades 9–12 that introduces learners to the principles, tools, and processes used to design and develop interactive games using the Unity game engine. Learners explore game design, Unity development, C# scripting, physics, player controls, audio, visual effects, user interface design, animation, materials, lighting, and game testing while progressively developing their own original game projects.

Through hands-on Unity activities, design challenges, and project-based learning, learners develop skills in creative problem-solving, programming, technical troubleshooting, iteration, and digital project management. The course emphasizes the complete game development process from concept and planning through prototyping, playtesting, revision, and presentation.

Learners culminate the course by designing, developing, and presenting an original playable Unity game that demonstrates their technical and creative growth. The course also supports preparation for the optional Unity certification exam and future study or careers in game development, programming, interactive media, and related technology fields.

This capstone course is part of a CTE pathway. Capstone courses require a minimum of 50 hours of work per semester. View our CTE webpage for details.
